1. Labone
Labone is on the south side of the Cantonment, with no distinct border between them. This neighborhood is a “cheaper” option in comparison to Airport Residential or Cantonments. You will find many middle-class Ghanaians living here, but also quite a few expats.
Labone is a mix of “work and play”. Here you will find some of the best restaurants, bars, cafes, etc in town and it also has good access to major roads in Accra.
2. James Town
One of Accra’s oldest neighborhoods, Jamestown was built around (and named after) the 17th-century James Fort—the British colonial administration’s headquarters and center for the transatlantic slave trade. Bring sunscreen, a sun hat, comfy shoes, cash, and water. Visiting Jamestown usually involves a fair amount of walking, even if you’re just climbing the lighthouse to check out the view.
Jamestown is a great place to eat and drink in Accra, with everything from street food to high-end patisseries on offer. Highlights include traditional Ga food, like kenkey and banku, which you can order from street stalls, along with fried fish and octopus.
3. Airport Residential Area
Airport Residential Area is a beacon of urban luxury and modern living in Accra Ghana. Nestled strategically just minutes from the Kotoka International Airport, this sought-after neighborhood is a haven for homebuyers, corporate executives, and astute property investors. 4. Cantonments
Cantonments is another top area preferred by expats. It is a great option especially if you are coming with your family due to the peace and quiet i offers.
It is also one of the most expensive areas of Accra, but offers very good safety. In fact, you can be sure it’s also one of the safest and most luxurious city in Accra
It doesn’t have such a great selection of amenities like Airport Residential has, but it is only a 5 minute drive away from Osu which is like the “heart” of Accra, full of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, and much more. You will find many of the embassies and consulates in Cantonments.
5. Osu
Osu is the heart of the city, the area with the most vibrant nightlife in Accra. Osu is located in the region of Greater Accra. Greater Accra’s capital Accra (Accra) is approximately 1.2 km / 0.7 mi away from Osu (as the crow flies). It is definitely a “younger spirit” area and thus, the “peace” factor is harder to find.
Homes here are mostly detached houses and low-rise apartments with a high-rise skyline on the rise thanks to some developers. It’s a nice place to live for several expats, especially the young and exuberant, as getting around to discover Accra is rather easy.
6. East Legon
East Legon is mostly known to be home of wealthy Ghanaians who have returned from abroad to live in Ghana. It hosts the most estates in the country. Here you will find the most extravagant and luxurious homes and also a great array of amenities, with some of the “hot-spot” places of Accra.
7. Roman Ridge
Roman Ridge is located West of Airport Residential. This is a great option if you want to be located in the center of the city, but away from the hustle and bustle. Due to its quiet nature, you will have to move to other areas such as Osu or Labone to find the amenities you need.
Roman Ridge is one of the planned neighborhoods in Accra. It is a residential area with very large buildings. Roman Ridge is considered by many as the vicinity for the affluent.
8. Dzorwulu
Dzorwulu is probably the furthest location away from the city center, however it still has a good array of amenities around.
You will not find as many expats here as you may in Labone or Airport Residential, but it is still a good option if you are looking for something more quiet, with good roads and easy access to other main roads and neighborhoods. Dzorwulu is also a cheaper living option than other locations we previously mentioned.
9. Spintex
The Spintex Community mainly comprises of the Spintex Road, which is a 6.5-mile stretch, 2-lane, secondary highway street located in Accra, Ghana. Spintex has over the years grown very fast and people seem to like it day in and day out. The district is popularly known for its eclectic fusion of culture, architectural styles, International neighbours, shopping destinations, estates, wild nightlife, and fine restaurants. The streets of Spintex Accra have been carefully designed with wide, clean, and accessible that leading to easily into the heart of the city, reliable and regular public transport, Its own city police force, shops, stores, homes, night clubs with sounds to keep you entertained all the time.
